Auditory Training / Hearing Therapy

Auditory Training / Hearing Therapy

What is AIT?

Auditory Integration Training (AIT) is a Hearing Attention Development Program developed by Dr. Guy Berard. This internationally recognized hearing therapy has been proven effective for individuals with autism and learning difficulties.

How Does Hearing Affect Behavior?

A person’s behavior is greatly influenced by their hearing. There is a strong connection between how external sounds are perceived and an individual’s reactions. As a result, the quality of auditory processing plays a crucial role in specific behavioral, psychological, and learning challenges.

How Does the Therapy Work?

The therapy begins with a detailed assessment, including age-appropriate tests tailored to the child’s condition. Additionally, an ENT report no older than 10 days is required before starting the therapy, as training is not conducted on inflamed or unhealthy ears.

Based on the evaluation results, a personalized therapeutic music program is created. A specialized software randomizes high and low-frequency sound alternations, uniquely stimulating the auditory nerve pathways.

The child then participates in a 10-day auditory training program, listening to this specially designed music through headphones. The therapy includes two 30-minute sessions per day, with at least three hours between sessions. The therapy is conducted at home, and the required device is provided for the duration of the training. Continuous communication is maintained with parents throughout the process.

Since the therapy also affects the vestibular system, other movement therapies must be paused during the 10-day period. If necessary, the therapy can be repeated every 3-4 months.

Who Can Benefit from AIT?

This therapy is particularly effective for individuals with:

  • Dyslexia
  • Dysgraphia
  • Dyscalculia
  • Hyperactivity
  • Autism
  • Speech perception and comprehension disorders
  • Delayed speech development
  • Delayed motor development
  • Balance disorders

What Are the Expected Results?

The effects of the therapy continue to develop over four months after completion. While immediate changes can be observed, further improvements are expected over time. The therapy may be repeated annually if needed, though a single session is often sufficient.

Notable Improvements After Therapy:

✔ Improved attention and concentration ✔ Enhanced auditory processing abilities ✔ Increased communication interest ✔ Reduced auditory sensitivity ✔ Better reading and writing skills ✔ Improved social skills ✔ Decreased echolalia ✔ Fewer tantrums, rituals, and restlessness ✔ Normalized muscle tone
